Postecoglou cites “that was the biggest attraction” as the reason he was so eager to sign with Spurs.
Ange Postecoglou has acknowledged that what drew him to N17 was the challenge of succeeding at a major club that has recently been devoid of glory.
Postecoglou has won championships wherever he has worked in his career, but Tottenham represents unquestionably the greatest challenge of his managerial career.
In addition to being significantly better than the leagues he has managed in, the Premier League is also perhaps the most competitive league in the world, and he is taking over a team that hasn’t won a trophy in 15 years.
However, the Australian clarified that he enjoys significant challenges and that his excitement stemmed from the possibility of adding his name to Spurs mythology by winning championships.
Tottenham is where Postecoglou hopes to have an influence.
The 58-year-old responded to talkSPORT’s question on why he chose the Tottenham challenge: “Exactly that. I enjoy challenges. I have consistently done that throughout my career. Wherever I have been, I have typically advanced every step of the way on the strength of success.
There is a challenge out there that truly inspires me, so that’s why. You need to be asked first. The first point is that; you’re not always questioned.
“Next, consider the situation you’re entering. The main motivator for me was probably the fact that it is, in all actuality, one of the largest clubs in the world but hasn’t seen success in a very long time.
“When you take on a project like that, you know that if everything goes according to plan, you can have an impact and leave a lasting impression on the team you’ve worked so hard for. I’m attempting to do that.
The club’s lack of success and the fact that it had just finished a particularly subpar season even by its own standards were what drew me in the most. There is potential to produce something.
