Senator John Enoh, Nigeria’s Minister of Sports Development, has urged the Super Eagles to win the Africa Cup of Nations championship in Ivory Coast in 2019 after the team completed its qualifying campaign with a convincing 6-0 victory over Sao Tome and Principe on Sunday in Uyo.

Ademola Lookman, Taiwo Awoniyi, Samuel Chukwueze, and Victor Osimhen all scored goals to help the True Parrots win the match after losing the first leg 10-0 the year before. Osimhen also scored a hat-trick.

Speaking about the outcome of the game, Enoh praised the squad for giving the Nigerian people something to cheer about in the shape of a strong performance and urged them to win the AFCON the following year.

I congratulate the Super Eagles on their outstanding performance on behalf of the entire nation of Nigeria. While this gently ends our qualification, I want to challenge the team to fight through all the obstacles in Ivory Coast the next year. All hands would be on deck to ensure that Nigeria receives the AFCON trophy, he declared.

“In our effort to bring glory to Nigeria, the ministry will work around the clock to make sure the team receives the finest preparation possible. The dedication to the national colors shown by our players has encouraged me to believe that the team will be inspired to compete at the AFCON.
