MATCH PREVIEW: Arsenal vs Liverpool predictions: Klopp’s stars can rock the Emirates

Jurgen Klopp will be looking for another Liverpool win at Arsenal

Jurgen Klopp will be looking for another Liverpool win at Arsenal

– Arsenal have only won two of their last 17 league games against Liverpool

– Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 15 league games

– Recommended bet: Back Liverpool to win

Liverpool have responded to the news of Jurgen Klopp’s decision to depart in the summer by recording two stunning victories and will be eyeing a third when they head to Arsenal on Sunday.

A victory will give them an eight-point lead over the Gunners at the top of the standings, while Manchester City will also face that deficit, albeit their participation in Monday’s match against Brentford means they will have two games in hand.

Sunday’s clash at the Emirates could either sway the Premier League title race in Liverpool’s favour or bring Arsenal back into the battle.

Mikel Arteta’s men have shown signs of overcoming their Christmas slump but the Reds’ form makes them tough to back against when it comes to getting all three points.

Team news

Takehiro Tomiyasu is still unavailable for Arsenal due to his participation for Japan at the Asian Cup, but Gabriel Jesus showed he has recovered from a minor knee issue with a goal against Nottingham Forest last time out and looks set to keep his place.

However, Thomas Partey has suffered a setback in his recovery from a thigh injury and will miss out again.

For Liverpool, Darwin Nunez faces a fitness test on a foot injury but Alexis Mac Allister should be available to start despite damaging his knee late on in Wednesday’s win over Chelsea.

Like the Gunners’ Tomiyasu, Reds midfielder Wataru Endo is with Japan at the Asian Cup, while Stefan Bajcetic (hip), Mohamed Salah (hamstring) and Kostas Tsimikas (collarbone) are all unavailable.

The stats

After three straight defeats in all competitions, Arsenal have won their last two games, beating Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest.

Their last four outings at the Emirates have all resulted in a ‘no’ in the both teams to score market, while the same can be said for three of Liverpool’s last four away games.

Liverpool have won six times away from home in the league this season, equalling their tally from 2022-23. However, they have only won on five of their last 16 Premier League visits to London.

Arsenal have won eight of their 11 home games in the Premier League, drawing two and losing the other to West Ham.

December’s reverse fixture at Anfield ended as a 1-1 draw but Liverpool will take confidence from winning 2-0 in the FA Cup when the pair clashed at the Emirates last month.

Prediction

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have not had it all their own way in recent months

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have not had it all their own way in recent months

Arsenal will be buoyed by their recent upturn in form but the way Liverpool blew Chelsea away by a 4-1 scoreline in the week appears ominous for their hosts and any other opponents they face between now and the end of the season.

Klopp’s early call that he would be stepping down could have derailed his side’s season but they have been excellent in the two games since, beating Norwich 5-2 last weekend before thumping the Blues.

That type of scoring form is unlikely to continue but they will be confident of frustrating the Gunners, who had 18 efforts in the recent FA Cup game but failed to take their chances and were undone on the break.

Liverpool might be happy to let them have the ball again, with the sheer speed they operate with when in transition, making them irresistible on the break.
