Why Liverpool fans are already smitten with a “modern-day David Beckham,” according to Dominik Szoboszlai

The Hungarian’s buy-out provision in his RB Leipzig contract was immediately met by the Reds, and he has spent little time in winning over the Kop.

It’s impressive and telling that a sizable portion of Liverpool fans have literally been shouting Dominik Szoboszlai’s praises during the international break. The Hungarian only recently arrived at Anfield, which is the first issue. Second, his last name isn’t exactly a surname that encourages rhymes.

As a result of Gerrard
It undoubtedly helped that he revealed his Steven Gerrard-inspired tattoo, which reads: “Talent is a blessing from God, but without incredible will and humility, it is worthless,” as soon as he joined the team. That was unquestionably a terrific impression to start with.

The fact that they don’t seem to be meaningless words, though, has been quite encouraging. The brilliance, determination, and humility of Szoboszlai have all been on display during the first few weeks of his Liverpool career, which explains why the supporters have warmed up to their new No. 8 so fast.

He has talked about keeping his feet on the ground, not planning too far in advance, and just concentrating on paying back the club’s faith in him. Of course, the fact that Szoboszlai was so eager to wear Gerrard’s former number shows that he has no confidence issues, but it also shows that he is not afraid of a challenge. In his first four Premier League games, that was very clear.

a fantastic beginning
Szoboszlai’s extensive skill set has garnered a lot of attention, and for good reason. It came as no surprise to see the versatile midfielder open his account with a well-placed drive against Aston Villa last time out. He has demonstrated a fantastic range of passing and an eye-catching ability to neatly dodge defenders.

Szoboszlai’s long-range shooting and dead-ball deliveries were always thought to provide Liverpool’s offense a new dimension. However, those who had only briefly seen Szoboszlai at Leipzig or Red Bull Salzburg have been quite pleasantly surprised by his career.

The end result is that the 22-year-old immediately appears comfortable in the middle of the Liverpool defense, which is notable given that many players have historically needed a lot of time to adjust to Jurgen Klopp’s expectations.

Liverpool’s $60 million’steal’
However, a few instructors who were close to Szoboszlai made this claim. Giovanni Costantino, a former assistant coach for Hungary, said to The Daily Mail, “Look, I don’t believe people who say ‘Dominik will need some time to adjust to the Premier League.'” He’ll probably make an impression right away, in my opinion.

Jesse Marsch, a former coach of Leipzig and Salzburg, dubbed the $60 million price tag for Szoboszlai “a steal” and contrasted it with Manchester City’s $51 million acquisition of Erling Haaland, another of his former players.

In an interview with The Telegraph, the American said, “They are a distinct profile of footballer. “Erling can score whenever he wants, which allows him to alter the course of a game. His power and pace are distinct from everyone else’s.

“But Szobo has an elegance and technical ability to go with a physical package which make him unique. There are not many players with his physical stature who can run as he can with the intelligence. The point is that these two are destined to be two of the best in the world in their positions.”

Haaland has arguably already achieved that aim by tearing up the Premier League in his first season at the Eithad – the question is whether Szoboszlai can follow suit at Anfield?

“More dynamic and mobile than Beckham”
Those who have followed his development since he made his professional debut at the age of 16 in 2017 for Salzburg’s reserve side, Liefering, have long known of his potential. In the meantime, Marsch discovered an exciting prospect at Salzburg whom he dubbed the “modern-day David Beckham”.

“He can put the ball wherever he wants when it is on his right foot. He can put the ball on the ground with unbelievable speed and accuracy, said Marsch. And the reason I say “modern day” is because he is more dynamic and mobile [than Beckham].

Because of his fame and celebrity-like status in Hungary, which has brought with it an incredible and severe level of scrutiny, the comparison to Beckham is also partially appropriate. For years, he has had to contend with claims that he is “The next Ferenc Puskas.”
