If Chelsea’s first priority was to sign Guimaraes, that would be unexpected.
After adding Caicedo and Romeo Lavia during the summer transfer window, they currently appear to be strong in the middle of the field.
The two now have Fernandez, Conor Gallagher, Carney Chukwuemeka, and Lesley Ugochukwu as possibilities at Stamford Bridge who can play in the center of the field.
Guimaraes is undoubtedly a talented player, as evidenced by the words “incredible talent” used by Eddie Howe, his manager. But if Chelsea is going to spend more than £100 million on one single player once more, it ought to go to a forward.
