Jamie Carragher names the Liverpool star player that caused the team this poor form

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher didn’t mince his words when assessing Mohamed Salah’s performance in the Reds’ disappointing 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace in the Premier League. Despite enjoying dominance in possession, pass accuracy, and shots on target, Liverpool failed to capitalize on their opportunities, ultimately succumbing to a solitary goal from Palace midfielder Eberechi Eze at Anfield.

The match saw both sides trading chances, with Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson making crucial saves to deny Liverpool’s attacking threats. However, Salah, who has been a key figure for Liverpool in recent seasons, struggled to make an impact, leading to criticism from Carragher and fans alike.

Carragher highlighted Salah’s lackluster form in recent weeks, pointing out that the Egyptian star has been “not at the races” since his return from injury suffered at AFCON 2024. Despite Salah’s return to action in February, his output in terms of goals and assists has been below par, raising concerns about his effectiveness in Liverpool’s attack. “He’s just not at the races, Mo Salah. It’s been like that for a few weeks now.”

In addition to Salah’s underwhelming performance, Liverpool faced another setback as young right-back Conor Bradley was forced off the pitch due to injury, further disrupting their rhythm. With Trent Alexander-Arnold stepping in as Bradley’s replacement, Liverpool’s defensive stability was momentarily compromised, contributing to their struggles against Palace’s resilient defense.

Despite boasting superior statistics in possession and shots on target, Liverpool’s inability to convert their chances into goals proved costly, highlighting the importance of clinical finishing in football. As the title race intensifies, Liverpool will need to address their offensive inefficiencies and regain their scoring touch to maintain their pursuit of silverware.

The Reds statistically had better possession (70%), pass accuracy (83%–68%), and more shots on target (6–5) in the match but still couldn’t find the back of the net.
