Jurgen Klopp has been told what to do next after leaving Liverpool by his wife – and it’s not the first time she’s directed his future.

Klopp is no longer calling the shots at Anfield after nearly nine years in charge, the fourth-longest managerial reign in Premier League history. So it’s no surprise he’s happy for his other half Ulla Sandrock to make the decisions in their personal life for him.

And for now, the German’s attention will be far from anything to do with the dugout. Instead, Ulla will be putting him through his paces in the kitchen and on the dance floor.

“There’s a few things Ulla told me – I have to learn cooking and a dance class,” Klopp told Sky News last month. “I said you don’t want me to have a break because if I do that I will start working after four weeks again!

“I should learn cooking probably so I can at least make some breakfast or whatever. This will be the first time in my life where I don’t have a real idea of what I will do and that’s exactly what I want.

“During COVID I did scrambled eggs but after that I forgot it again. I was raised in the Black Forest with two sisters, the only reason I knew where the kitchen was because the smell came from there. I’m pretty useless in private life.”

Ulla has been Klopp’s biggest supporter since they first met when he was boss of Mainz and she was working as a waitress at his favourite local bar. They wed in 2005 and she’s since followed him to Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool.

They could have moved to England two years earlier, however, as Klopp turned down the chance to take over at Old Trafford on Ulla’s advice. That’s according to Liverpool legend Phil Thompson, who made the claim to Norway’s TV2 in 2019.

“I interviewed Klopp for Sky, and I asked if he and Liverpool were created for each other,” Thompson recalled. “He looked at me and asked ‘Why?’

“Then Klopp told me he could have taken over Manchester United, but his wife said it wasn’t right. When Liverpool arrived, his wife said it was right. There is something strange there. It is as if he’s created for Liverpool.”

She won’t be keeping him away from football altogether, though. Klopp will soon be back on our TV screens at a stadium. He told reporters before his final game: “I have got an invitation now for the Champions League final.

“They said “’I don’t think he will come’ but of course I will come, it’s the Champions League final and I have nothing to do really! That’s one thing, besides that we didn’t plan anything. At the Euros we will watch games and have tickets for a few games.
