MATCH SUSPENDED: LSU vs. Kentucky Super Regional Baseball Opener Faces Multiple Weather Delays…‎

The opening game of the NCAA Super Regional baseball series between the LSU Tigers and the Kentucky Wildcats experienced several delays on Saturday due to inclement weather in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Originally scheduled for a 2 p.m. start, the game faced multiple postponements throughout the day, with the first pitch eventually taking place at 9:06 p.m.

LSU’s head coach, Jay Johnson, emphasized the importance of player safety and game integrity when addressing the delays. He stated that the team would not commence play without a clear window to complete the game, avoiding scenarios where play might be interrupted, which could adversely affect pitching strategies.

Despite the unfavorable weather conditions and extended waiting periods, LSU fans showcased remarkable dedication. They maintained a vibrant presence at Alex Box Stadium, engaging in tailgating activities and supporting their team throughout the delays.

The National Weather Service had indicated a 20% chance of showers before 9 p.m., leading to cautious monitoring of the situation. Brief showers occurred just after 8 p.m., but only the pitcher’s mound and home plate areas required covering.

The delays underscored the challenges of scheduling during unpredictable weather, highlighting the commitment of both teams and their supporters to proceed under safe and fair conditions.
