Heartbreaking: Bridge Creek ‘heartbroken’ after death of Nataly Metheny, Panhandle State softball signee….

The Bridge Creek community is mourning the death of two-sport senior athlete Nataly Metheny, who died Friday after a weeks-long illness.

Metheny was a four-year letterman at Bridge Creek, where she competed in softball and wrestling. She had signed to play NAIA softball at Panhandle State in the fall.

We are heartbroken by the loss of one of our senior athletes, Nataly,” the Bridge Creek High School’s athletics program wrote in a Facebook post Friday night. “She will be deeply missed by so many. Please keep her family and friends in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

A GoFundMe campaign has been organized to help the family with medical bills.

Metheny received a liver transplant at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston in the weeks leading up to her death, according to the GoFundMe organizers. Complications with Metheny’s Pancreas led to her death.

“As a community, we have already had to say goodbye to one of our sons, and now we must also let go of a daughter,” wrote Regina Hatley, who organized the GoFundMe campaign. “No parent ever plans to bury their child — it is a pain no one should have to endure alone. Let’s come together once more, as a family and a community, to ease this financial burden and allow the family to focus on healing.

A moment of silence was held for Metheny before Bridge Creek’s girls basketball game against Commanche on Friday night.
