Texas quarterbacks Arch Manning and Quinn Ewers could both potentially enter the transfer portal after the College Football Playoff, raising concerns about their futures with the Longhorns.

There is a lot of uncertainty surrounding Texas QB Quinn Ewers’ future, especially regarding whether he will play in the NFL or return to college football in 2025. Brian Davis of A to Z Sports speculated that both Ewers and Arch Manning could enter the transfer portal depending on who Steve Sarkisian names as the starter for next season.

“Sarkisian will let this season play out with Ewers, regardless of how it goes,” Davis said, adding, “Then they’ll likely have some tough conversations. Would Manning be willing to wait another year? Could Manning transfer? It’s unclear. Could Ewers leave, transferring elsewhere without going pro, knowing Texas fans are eager for Manning to take over?”

Nothing is set in stone, but all options are being considered.

Sarkisian urged Longhorn fans to put an end to the QB competition talk, as Texas aims to finish the 2024 season strong after a 9-1 start.

“I say this to all Longhorn Nation: We’re 9-1 for the second consecutive year,” Sarkisian stated on November 21. “We’re competing for a conference championship and a spot in the College Football Playoff for the second year in a row. Let’s not forget how tough the last decade was. We need to appreciate how well this team is playing right now.”

Regardless of Sarkisian’s wishes, the debate over Ewers and Manning will persist throughout the season. If Texas doesn’t win it all with Ewers at the helm, fans will inevitably wonder what could’ve happened if Manning had been the starter instead. This will remain an uncomfortable issue until Sarkisian no longer has two elite quarterbacks in his room, at which point he’ll face an even bigger dilemma.
