Born on February 12, 2004, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Lively was raised by his mother, Kathy Drysdale, a former Penn State basketball standout. He attended Westtown School in West Chester, Pennsylvania, where he led his team to a state championship and earned McDonald’s All-American honors. Lively played one season at Duke University, earning ACC All-Defensive and All-Freshman team honors before declaring for the NBA Draft.

Lively’s rookie season showcased his potential, averaging 8.8 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks per game. He was named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team and played a pivotal role in the Mavericks’ run to the 2024 NBA Finals.

Off the court, Lively was known for his resilience and dedication to family. He faced personal tragedy in April 2024 when his mother, Kathy, passed away after an 11-year battle with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Lively honored her memory by continuing to pursue excellence in his basketball career, embodying the strength and determination she instilled in him.
