LEXINGTON, KY – Mark Stoops, the longest-serving head coach in Kentucky Wildcats football history, has officially announced his retirement, ending an extraordinary chapter in the program’s history. During a press conference, Stoops shared his decision to step away, citing a desire to focus on family and personal pursuits after dedicating more than a decade to rebuilding and elevating Kentucky football.
Since joining the Wildcats in 2013, Stoops has led the team to unprecedented heights, including multiple bowl game victories, top-tier recruiting classes, and consistent competitiveness in the demanding SEC. Under his leadership, the program shed its underdog status and earned respect as a tough, disciplined contender.
“This has been the most rewarding experience of my life,” Stoops remarked. “Coaching this team and watching it grow has been an honor. I leave knowing that the foundation we built will continue to grow stronger.”
Kentucky’s athletic department has announced plans to begin a national search for Stoops’ successor while celebrating his remarkable contributions. A farewell event is planned to honor his transformative impact on the Wildcat’s legacy.
