BREAKING: Four-Star Offensive Lineman Deacon Schmitt Commits to Oklahoma Sooners, Choosing OU Over Alabama and Colorado

The Oklahoma Sooners have secured another major win on the recruiting trail as four-star offensive lineman Deacon Schmitt announced his commitment to Oklahoma, choosing the Sooners over powerhouse programs Alabama and Colorado.

Schmitt, a 6-foot-5, 295-pound standout from Kansas City, Missouri, is ranked among the top interior offensive linemen in the 2026 class. Known for his physical dominance, balance, and leadership on and off the field, Schmitt’s addition marks a key moment in Oklahoma’s efforts to fortify its offensive front ahead of the Sooners’ full transition into the SEC.

Schmitt made several visits to high-profile programs over the past few months, but in the end, the Sooners’ vision for player development and team culture stood out.

“When I met the coaches and saw how they work, I knew this was a place that builds players the right way,” Schmitt said. “They’re not just about winning games — they’re about preparing you for the next level, on and off the field. That really hit home for me.”

Oklahoma offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh continues to show why he’s regarded as one of the best developers of offensive linemen in college football. His success in producing NFL-caliber talent clearly played a big role in Schmitt’s decision.

“Deacon Schmitt has all the tools you want in a future SEC lineman,” said 247Sports recruiting analyst Cooper Petagna. “He’s athletic, smart, and aggressive. This commitment shows that Oklahoma’s recruiting approach in the trenches is working.”

For head coach Brent Venables, the commitment represents another step toward building an SEC-ready roster that can compete with the nation’s best. The Sooners’ 2026 recruiting class continues to trend upward, loaded with four-star talent across key positions, and Schmitt’s addition only strengthens that trajectory.

Schmitt, who anchored his high school’s offensive line the past two seasons, has drawn praise for his leadership and maturity. Coaches describe him as a “tone-setter” who raises the intensity of everyone around him.

> “I want to be part of a team that plays with pride and toughness,” Schmitt added. “Oklahoma plays football the way I like to play — physical, fast, and with heart. I’m excited to help bring championships back to Norman.”

With Schmitt’s commitment, the Sooners continue to build momentum heading into the 2026 cycle, adding both power and personality to a growing class that reflects Venables’ long-term vision for sustained success.
