Oklahoma Sooners head coach Brent Venables has been named the 2025 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team Honorary Head Coach, a prestigious recognition celebrating his outstanding leadership, community service, and positive influence both on and off the field.

The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, established in 1992, honors college football players and coaches who make significant contributions to their communities and embody the true spirit of sportsmanship and service. Venables joins an elite list of coaches who have not only excelled in the game of football but have also inspired change beyond the sidelines.

For Venables, who is entering another strong season leading the Sooners, this honor reflects years of commitment to shaping young men into responsible leaders and role models. Since taking over the Oklahoma program, he has emphasized faith, family, education, and accountability—core values that extend beyond the locker room. His focus on character development and service has become a cornerstone of the team’s culture in Norman.

Venables has been heavily involved in several charitable initiatives, particularly those that serve children, military families, and underprivileged youth. His “Soul Mission” program at Oklahoma, which focuses on personal growth, life skills, and community involvement, has received national praise. The program encourages players to volunteer regularly, participate in mentorship opportunities, and make meaningful contributions to local organizations across Oklahoma.

In his statement following the announcement, Venables expressed deep gratitude for the recognition, crediting his players, staff, and university community.

> “This honor isn’t about me—it’s about the young men in our locker room who show up every day ready to serve others,” Venables said. “At Oklahoma, we believe football is a platform for something greater. Our mission is to develop leaders who make a difference long after the final whistle.”

Under Venables’ leadership, the Sooners have combined strong academic performance, community involvement, and competitive success. His approach has fostered a new era of purpose-driven football at Oklahoma, aligning with the values celebrated by the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.

AFCA Executive Director Todd Berry praised Venables’ example, noting that his work reflects the heart of the award:

> “Coach Venables embodies everything the Good Works Team stands for—humility, service, and leadership. He’s not only preparing his players to win games but to win in life.”

The recognition comes at a time when Oklahoma continues its transition into the SEC, and Venables’ influence on and off the field has been a stabilizing force for the program. His emphasis on community and integrity has helped the Sooners maintain their strong national reputation while inspiring other programs to prioritize character development alongside athletic excellence.

With this honor, Brent Venables becomes not just a representative of Oklahoma football but of the broader impact that college coaches can have in shaping future generations. For the Sooners and their fans, the award is yet another reminder that leadership—rooted in service—remains one of Oklaho

ma’s proudest traditions.
