5-Star RB Deshonne Redeaux Commits to Ohio State Over Penn State, Tennessee

In a major recruiting win for the Buckeyes, five-star running back Deshonne Redeaux has officially committed to Ohio State, choosing Ryan Day’s program over Penn State and Tennessee. The talented rusher from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, made his announcement on Saturday, further solidifying Ohio State’s dominance on the recruiting trail.

Why Redeaux Chose Ohio State

Redeaux, a 6-foot-1, 205-pound back ranked among the top players in the 2025 class, cited Ohio State’s offensive system, player development, and history of producing NFL talent as key reasons for his decision.

“I felt like Ohio State was the best fit for me,” Redeaux said in his commitment announcement. “The coaching staff, the culture, and the way they develop running backs—it was everything I was looking for.”

Running backs coach Carlos Locklyn, who joined the Buckeyes this offseason, played a crucial role in securing Redeaux’s pledge. Locklyn’s reputation for developing physical, explosive runners and Ohio State’s recent success in the backfield made a lasting impression on the Louisiana native.

Recruiting Battle: Beating Penn State & Tennessee

Penn State and Tennessee pushed hard for Redeaux’s commitment. The Nittany Lions, led by James Franklin, pitched their strong offensive line and recent success with running backs like Nicholas Singleton and Kaytron Allen. Meanwhile, Tennessee showcased Josh Heupel’s up-tempo offense and the potential to be a feature back in Knoxville.

However, Ohio State’s mix of tradition, championship contention, and offensive balance proved to be the deciding factor.

What Redeaux Brings to Ohio State

Redeaux is a dynamic, physical back with elite vision, acceleration, and breakaway speed. He rushed for over 2,100 yards and 25 touchdowns as a junior, showcasing his ability to take over games. His combination of power and agility makes him a perfect fit for Ohio State’s offensive scheme.

Scouting experts compare him to former Buckeye greats like J.K. Dobbins and Ezekiel Elliott, given his ability to break tackles and produce in both the running and passing game. With TreVeyon Henderson likely heading to the NFL after 2024, Redeaux could be in line for early playing time in Columbus.

Ohio State’s Recruiting Class Just Got Stronger

With Redeaux’s commitment, Ohio State’s 2025 class continues to rise in the rankings. He joins a star-studded group that already includes 5-star quarterback Julian Sayin, 4-star wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, and several top offensive linemen.

The addition of a high-profile running back like Redeaux sends a strong message: Ohio State is committed to maintaining its offensive firepower and competing for national championships.

As the Buckeyes prepare for another College Football Playoff push, they can rest easy knowing their future backfield just got a major boost.
