Georgia Bulldogs’ Tight End Oscar Delp to Miss Upcoming Game Following Mother’s Passing

The Georgia Bulldogs community is rallying around tight end Oscar Delp after the tragic loss of his mother, Mary Delp, who passed away in the hospital earlier this week. In light of this personal tragedy, Delp will not participate in the Bulldogs’ upcoming game, choosing to be with his family during this difficult time.

Mary Delp was a significant influence in Oscar’s life, known for her dedication as a marathon runner, including participation in the Boston Marathon. Her commitment to athletics and her unwavering support played a pivotal role in shaping Oscar’s sports career. In a previous interview, Oscar reflected on his mother’s impact, stating, “She likes to compete. I think that’s where I get my competitiveness from.”

The University of Georgia’s athletic department has expressed its condolences to the Delp family. Head Coach Kirby Smart remarked, “Oscar is a valued member of our team, and our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. We’ll support him in any way we can during this challenging period.”

Teammates and fans have also shown an outpouring of support, with many taking to social media to offer their sympathies and share memories of Mary Delp’s positive influence within the community.

While Oscar Delp’s absence will be felt on the field, the Bulldogs are united in honoring his mother’s memory and supporting their teammate. The team is expected to wear commemorative patches during the next game as a tribute to Mary Delp.

The Delp family has requested privacy during this time of mourning. Plans for a memorial service will be announced in the coming days.
