LEGEND RETURNS: Dirk Nowitzki Comes Home to Dallas Mavericks as Assistant Coach

In a move that has sent shockwaves of excitement throughout the NBA, Dallas Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki has announced his return to the franchise as an assistant coach. The 7-foot German superstar, who spent 21 seasons with the Mavericks and led the team to the 2011 NBA championship, will join head coach Jason Kidd’s staff for the upcoming season.

Nowitzki, a 14-time NBA All-Star and 12-time All-NBA selection, retired from professional basketball in 2019. Since then, he has remained involved with the Mavericks, serving as a special advisor to the franchise. His return to the sidelines as an assistant coach is a major coup for the Mavericks, who are looking to build on last season’s playoff run.

“I’m thrilled to be back with the Mavericks and to have the opportunity to work with Coach Kidd and the rest of the staff,” Nowitzki said in a statement. “I’m looking forward to helping the team in any way I can and to being a part of another successful season in Dallas.”
