Former Wildcat Daimion Collins Returns to Rupp Arena as LSU Faces Kentucky

Rupp Arena is no stranger to emotional homecomings, and on Wednesday night, Kentucky fans will witness another one as former Wildcat forward Daimion Collins returns to face his old team—this time wearing the purple and gold of LSU.

Collins, who transferred to Louisiana State University in the offseason, has flourished in his new role as a starter for the Tigers. After spending two seasons at Kentucky in a limited role, the former five-star recruit sought a fresh start, and it has paid off. He is currently averaging 12.8 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks per game, becoming a key piece in LSU’s rotation.

Collins’ Kentucky Years and Decision to Transfer

The 6-foot-9 forward arrived in Lexington as part of Kentucky’s highly touted 2021 recruiting class. While he showed flashes of elite athleticism and defensive prowess, Collins struggled to carve out a consistent role in John Calipari’s system, averaging just 3.9 points and 2.2 rebounds over two seasons.

After the Wildcats fell short in the 2024 NCAA Tournament, Collins entered the transfer portal in search of more playing time. LSU head coach Matt McMahon quickly pursued him, offering the opportunity to be a focal point in the Tigers’ frontcourt.

“I have nothing but love for Kentucky,” Collins said in a recent interview. “But I needed a fresh start, and LSU gave me that chance. I’m excited to be back at Rupp, even if I’m on the other side.”

Kentucky Prepares for a Familiar Face

The Wildcats, currently ranked #17, are coming off a tough loss to Auburn and looking to bounce back in their final SEC home game. Kentucky’s frontcourt will have their hands full with Collins, whose length and shot-blocking ability could disrupt their offense.

“He’s a great player, and we know what he can do,” said Kentucky forward Aaron Bradshaw. “We’re not treating this game any differently, but we respect what he brings to the table.”

While the Wildcats will be focused on securing a win, fans are expected to give Collins a warm reception. Though his Kentucky career didn’t go as planned, many still view him as part of the Wildcat family.

Tipoff and Broadcast Details

The game between Kentucky and LSU is set for Wednesday at 7 PM ET at Rupp Arena. It will be broadcast on ESPN and available for streaming on the ESPN app.

Collins will have his chance to prove himself on his old stomping grounds, but Kentucky will be determined to send him back to Baton Rouge with a loss. Either way, it promises to be a memorable night in Lexington.
